Tracking One Action

Recently, I listened to a podcast featuring Jia Jiang who is famous for 100 days of rejection. You can see some funny videos he made on youtube where he intenionally tries to get rejected for 100 days straight doing one task a day.

He had mentioned the author Jim Collins in his podcast and recommended that people pay attention to the way Jim plans his year. He plans to do one thousand hours of creative work during the year. Using a stopwatch, a spreadsheet, and a journal, he just times the work that he does. It's that simple.

This was pretty interesting to me; Jia referred to this as a "one action" goal. Instead of tracking the outcome, which could be things like 'write a book' or 'get back into painting', he would instead say you should write for 182.5 hours in a year (30 minutes a day) or do the equivalent with painting.

For this reason, I made a tracker on the homepage for exercise. I am trying to get 75 more hours of raw exercise in this year. I'm hoping this new system helps me stay on track. It was at least fun to build the capability to track new goals that I have in life.
